Howard House (1995) by MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects

Photographed by James Steeves

Location: West Pennant, Nova Scotia, Canada

The Howard House was conceived as land art for an art historian and a family of four. It is a 12 ft by 110 ft wall which formalizes the line between the cultural landscape of the fishing cove to the east, from the natural landscape of the wild ocean to the west. An absolute, horizontal datum line at the top-of-concrete mirrors roof line and ground line in elevation. The east facade feels paper-thin and vulnerable, while the windward west facade puts its muscular shoulder to the wind with a concrete bump. The narrow prow-like south end of the house fronts on the bay.

Built for an extremely tight budget, the house was initially taxed as a boat shed.

YH2 Architects designed La Luge, a peaceful sanctuary for the cold winter months. Nestled in a Quebec forest, the beautiful timber home is a convertible space that features sliding doors and a private spa.

The new modern, everyone loves wood!

This project seems strange out there in the mottle of the woods, seems lonely.

New Container Home Design!

I’m very happy to present a project that I have been working on for some time now!

I designed a home on the ocean bluffs of Australia, near Bondi Beach! The home’s entire structure is comprised of recycled shipping containers. The building envelope is glass and pine wood. The home bends with the view and forms a courtyard for nature in the center.

The program, site and thesis (build a home from shipping containers) were part of an International Design Competition from [AC-CA]. I didn’t win but i’m still pretty proud!, check it out and tell me what you think!
